Call for Papers
You are invited to submit technical papers for DSOM '98: the Ninth Annual
IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems: Operations and
Management.
The workshop is sponsored by the International Federation for Information
Processing (IFIP) Working Group 6.6 on Network Management for
Communication Networks with technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE
Communications Society Technical Committee on Network Operations and
Management (CNOM). The Workshop is hosted by the University of Delaware
and will be held on the University campus in Newark, Delaware, USA
on October 26-28, 1998.
Workshop scope:
The scope of this workshop will be the operations and management of
application software or services within a distributed system and the
impact of advanced computing and network technologies on management.
The workshop has chosen "Management of Mobility" as its Theme Topic.
Mobile or nomadic users may connect via a variety of different channels,
10-1000 M.bit local area networks, dial up modems, mobile telephones etc.
Users may be connecting from different places (office, home, hotel) at
different times or may actually be mobile in a train or car. New
infrastructure and services are needed to support seamless interaction over
network channels with widely varying quality of service. Intelligent
filtering and caching mechanisms are needed to adjust traffic to available
bandwidth. Location services are needed to track users for location aware
applications or to redirect traffic to the nearest network access point.
This workshop will address the issues of managing these mobile users as
well as the support services and infrastructure. The workshop will provide
technical sessions with adequate time for discussion on presented papers
and panel sessions with invited experts to explore specific poblems and
future directions.
Papers are invited on the following subjects related to the Theme Topic:
- Management of Mobile (nomadic) users or systems
- Management of services to support mobility - location, caching,
information filter etc.
- Intelligent Agent Technologies to support mobility
- Management of mobile agents
- Management of Wireless Networks (including Wireless LANs, Intranets, and
Wireless ATM)
- Configuration Management for Mobile Systems
- Security Management for Mobile Systems
- Managing Quality of Service in Mobile Systems
- Managing Multimedia and Integrated Services in Mobile Systems
- Routing, Path, and Self-configuration Management in Mobile and Ad-hoc
Networks
- New Tools, Protocols, Architectures, etc. for Management of Mobile
Computing
SELECTED PAPERS FROM THE WORKSHOP ON THE THEME TOPIC WILL BE PUBLISHED
IN THE ACM JOURNAL MONET (MOBILE NETWORKING AND APPLICATIONS).
The workshop also invites papers on a wide variety of topics related
to the operations and management of distributed systems and networks.
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
- Cooperative Management
- Delegation and Scripting Frameworks
- Scalable Management of Large Scale Distributed Systems
- Management of Active Networks
- Web Based Management
- Management of the Internet, Intranets and the Web
- Management of Electronic Commerce
- Artificial Intelligence Applications
- Distributed Management of Applications and Services
- Quality of Service in Distributed Systems and Networks
- Personal Communications Services Management
- Telecommunications Services Management
- Data Management and Information Models
- Distributed Fault and Event Management
- Standards Frameworks for Distributed Management
- Platforms for Distributed Management
- Interoperability Issues
- Management Policies
- Security Issues
- Case Studies and Experiences
Workshop organization:
The workshop is an effort to bring together people actively working in
the Distributed Systems Management area. This international workshop
follows eight highly successful annual workshops on "Distributed
Systems: Operations & Management" held in Berlin, Santa Barbara, Munich,
Long Branch, Toulouse, Ottawa, L'Aquila, and Sydney in previous years.
For more information on past workshops, see
DSOM'96 and
DSOM'97
The workshop attendance will be limited to 100 participants. Preference
will be given to participants who have submitted a contribution.
Selection of contributions will be based on reviews of the papers
submitted. The session format is single track and allows plenty of
time for intensive in-depth discussions and interaction between
the workshop participants. Papers will be published in a proceedings.
Submissions should be complete, full-length papers (not extended abstracts)
and should not exceed 12 double-spaced pages. Electronic submission of
papers is encouraged. Click here for
full instructions for electronic submission.
In case you are not able to submit your paper electronically, please
mail 4 copies of your paper to:
